Soot Falling

You may experience small lumps of soot falling, particularly from an open fire, when it rains, hails or is windy. These generally fall into the fire grate or if you are unlucky onto the carpet.
This is a clear indication that your chimney sweep is well overdue and is caused by an accumulation of soot that clumps when in contact with rain or other moisture in the chimney and then, due to its weight, falls down..
The solution is simple, get in contact for a sweep. Once it starts to fall it wont stop until we get it all out.
It is worth adding that following a sweep you may still get a minimal amount of debris fall for a period. When we sweep we use brushes or other similar equipment, we do not polish the inside of your flue! Soot can gather in crevices and imperfections in the flue and later blow down, This isn't an indication that your sweep hasn't done a good job, it is just a fact of life.
Without a sweep however once the soot starts to fall it is unlikely to stop anytime soon.
